Description
The black and white cookies are a classic in New York City; also known as a half and half cookie or a half moon. Soft, sponge cake-like shortbread which is iced on one half with vanilla fondant, and on the other half by dark chocolate fondant.
Back in the day, they were actually made by bakeries from their leftover cake batters but are nowadays seen as a staple New York snack ! Their popularity increased recently after a famous Seinfeld episode.. in Jerry ’s words ” I love the black and white. Two races of flavor living side by side in harmony. It’s a wonderful thing isn’t it? The key to eating a black and white cookie, is to get some black and some white in each bite..Nothing mixes better than, vanilla and chocolate. If people would only *Look to the Cookie* — all our problems would be solved ”
