I have always thought that poppy seed was an intersting ingredient to use in sweets and savoury dishes. For the past decades; whole poppy seeds have been widely used as a spice and decoration in and on top of many baked goods. I remember my aunt in Austria using them in bread loaves and mixing them with orange and lemon batters in the 80’s.

My own first experiment with poppy seeds are these banana squares and I love them! A really soft and textured batter of mashed bananas, lemon juice, yoghurt and seeds, finally drizzled with loads od white chocolate.. really delicious! Next on my list are lemon and poppy seed cupcakes
